Proteins
The name protein is derived from the Greek word proteios, which means first important. G. V. Mulder coined this term in 1835 when he identified that these nitrogen containing organic compounds were essential for all life processes.
Proteins are copolymers made of 20 different amino acids. Many lower animals can synthesize all of these amino acids, but humans can not. Hence humans must obtain 8 of these from their diet. Fortunately, soyabeans, which have served as staple food for centuries, contain all the essential amino acids.
